| Liu Wendian(1891～1958),whose courtesy name is Shu Ya,was born in Hefei,Anhui Province.He is an outstanding master of literature and history,a master of textual criticism and an expert on Chuang Tzu in the modern history of China.He is knowledgeable,proud and uninhibited,and has the pride of traditional scholar-officials.Currently,domestic scholars have made a lot of achievements in the study of Liu Wendian,but the research mainly focuses on the perspective of literature and history,or depicts Liu Wendian’s typical character traits only from the narrative perspective.Therefore,This study is based on the perspective of psychological biography using the method of psychological biography to study Liu Wendian,a master of Chinese studies,in order to reveal the psychological process of dynamic interaction between Liu Wendian’s personality characteristics and his academic research,and to open up another possibility for a deep understanding of Liu Wendian and his thoughts.Psychobiography is a subject that integrates the principles and methods of psychology to explore the life stories of outstanding people and the personal subjectivity of biographical protagonists from multiple perspectives.Based on the key events,major turning points and typical character traits in Liu Wendian’s life,this study puts forward three suspenseful questions,and makes a deep exploration of three important questions of Liu Wendian’s "Why did he go on the road of Chuang Tzu research","The trip to Mohei"and "The proud personality",with the attention of answering the core question of whether Liu Wendian really reached the realm of free and unfettered.First of all,why did Liu Wendian go on the road of Chuang Tzu study?Through research,it is found that Liu Wenden transformed himself from a revolutionary who did his best to become an expert on Chuang Tzu under the influence of social background,academic movement,and important others and his own needs of "change".Secondly,why did Liu Wendian,who was known as a "living Chuang Tzu" and conceited,firm and unyielding and contemptuous of others while teaching at the Southwest Associated University,made such a trip to Mohei which seemed to everyone to be a "loss of integrity".According to this research,Liu Wendian’s trip is the result of his identification with his inner wise old man archetype,Chuang Tzu(Nanhua Immortal),which led to the personalization of his personality.He imitated Chuang Tzu,preserved the whole body,loved all living beings,and tried his best to study academics,at the same time,he developed excessive self-inflation.After making a trip to Mohei,Liu Wendian finally achieved the realization of "self’ through the process of individuation.He obeyed his own heart and became the most authentic self.Finally,is Liu Wendian’s "proud" really "proud"?After analysis,it is found that"proud" is the personality characteristic of Liu Wendian throughout his life.With the combination of family environment,early education,cultural atmosphere,the worship of role model and the imitation of Chuang Tzu’s spirit of "lofty" eventually contributed to Liu Wendian’s "proud" personality.Through the exploration of the suspense issues in Liu Wendian’s life,it can be concluded that Liu Wendian,who is known as the "living Chuang Tzu",finally reached the realm of free and unfettered.The following enlightenment can be drawn from this study:Liu Wendian’s academic personality and his educational thoughts have an important enlightening effect on today’s academic research and education and teaching development.Furthermore,in the process of life development,role models are of great significance to individual personality characteristics,behavior shaping,life decision-making and the formation of values. |
