Research On Functional Word And The Prose Traits In AiQing’s Poetry

This paper studies the use of function word in Ai Qing’s free verse in the 1930 s and1940s,separately from four aspects: the function words and Ai Qing’s theory of prose beauty,the function words and Ai Qing’s free verse,the function words and the rhythm of Ai Qing’s poetry,the function and the aesthetic features of Ai Qing’s poetry,to explore the important relationship between the function words and the prose traits in Ai Qing’s poetry.In terms of the function words and Ai Qing’s theory of prose beauty,Ai Qing advocates "the prose beauty of poetry",which makes many complex prose sentences in his poems.These complex prose sentences are inseparable from the extensive use of modern Chinese function words with the function of affixing and expressing meanings.The theory of prose beauty promotes the use of function words in his poems.In the 1930 s and 1940 s,Ai Qing used structural auxiliary words,dynamic auxiliary words,prepositions and adverbs,and seldom used conjunctions,modal auxiliary words,and end-of-sentence auxiliary words,which made the poetic language tend to prose sentence structure.In the terms of poetic form,Ai Qing skillfully used function words to control the length of sentence patterns,and explored flexible and rigorous syntax and rich and varied sentence patterns.The function words are used to naturally branch and cross stanzas,resulting in the chain and partition between lines,stanzas and stanzas,and finally constructing the free style of poetry.In terms of poetic rhythm,function words influence the construction of external rhythm and internal rhythm of Ai Qing’s free verse in the 1930 s and 1940 s.From the perspective of external rhythm,the use of function words creates a relatively neat visual rhythm with free variation and a harmonious and melodious auditory rhythm.From the perspective of internal rhythm,the use of function words has formed the clear semantic rhythm and the mood rhythm of Ai Qing’s poems.In terms of aesthetic characteristics,Ai Qing actively uses function words to control poetic rhetoric and achieve aesethetic harmony of meaning,emotion and form.And Ai Qing uses the function words to express the feelings of patriotism and concern for the people,forming a unique melancholy and lofty poetic style.The skillful use of function words not only constructs the free form of modern poetry,but also expresses the strong patriotic emotions.It makes Ai Qing’s poetry show the traits of prose.
