This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of Fire,Storm and Flood: The Violence of Climate Change(excerpts).It is mainly about the severe consequences caused by people’s over-exploitation of nature and various types of natural disasters.Furthermore,it helps to let more people know about the current environment and arouse their awareness of environmental protection.From the perspective of Communication Translation Theory,the report analyzes typical cases in the translation task and discusses translation techniques adopted in the E-C translation of environmental popular science texts.The report firstly gives a brief introduction of the translation task,the characteristics of the original text,and the organization of this report.Then,it is the description of translation process.Pre-task preparation,translation process,and post-task evaluation and feedback are included.The next part is case analysis,the author first makes an overview of Communicative Translation Theory and its applications.Then typical cases based on this theory are analyzed.In this part,the author analyzes the translation from lexical level,syntactic level,and textual level.According to this translation practice,the Communicative Translation Theory is profoundly valuable for translating popular science texts.The translator should take the understanding of target readers into consideration and adopt suitable techniques such as annotation,word meaning extension,conversion,division,combination,restructuring,etc.By doing so,the translation can convey the meaning of the original text and realize communication,and comply with the language norms of the target language as well.
