The English-Chinese Translation Of Two Parts Of Fire,Storm & Flood:the Violence Of Climate Change And The Translation Report

This thesis consists of three parts,namely,the source text of two parts(“Warning Signals” and “Hothouse Earth”)of Fire,Storm & Flood:the Violence of Climate Change,its Chinese version and the report on this translation practice.“Warning Signals” introduces the extreme weather events associated with warmer climate,such as storm,flood and forest fire.“Hothouse Earth” reveals that the extreme weather events that already exist will become even worse,as the climate is getting warmer.The author of the original text analyzes the causes and consequences of existing disaster risks and predicts the possible impact of climate change on the global environment in the future.The Chinese version aims to enhance people’s awareness and understanding of climate change,encourage them to reflect on the past and examine the future,and provide more reference materials for addressing the global climate change crisis.The translation report introduces the source of the original text,its author and the translation motivations,and analyzes the linguistic features and text type of the source text.A brief introduction to the Communicative Translation Theory is given and examples are cited to show how the translator applies the theory to her translation at the lexical,syntactical and textual levels respectively,including her way of rendering terms and proper names,her employment of such translation skills as conversion,addition and word-order adjustment,her improvement of both coherence and cohesion,and her conveyance of the style.The translator’s reflections are summed up at the end of the report.
