Research On Cultural Construction Of Anti-japanese Base Areas In Northern Jiangsu

In October 1938,after Guangzhou and Wuhan falling,the Anti Japanese War entered a strategic stalemate stage.Japanese imperialists continued to adhere to the general policy of annihilating China and shifted the focus of military attack to the battlefield behind the enemy led by the Communist Party of China(CPC).As a base area established by the CPC behind the enemy lines in central China,the northern Jiangsu Anti Japanese Base Area had an important strategic position.The foundation of northern Jiangsu base has been mentioned as “building a general consolidated base area for the whole of central China”.After the establishment of the northern Jiangsu base area,the Communist Party persisted in fighting against the Japanese puppet regime while carrying out construction work in the base area.At this time,the “cultural aggression policy to cultivate the meek”implemented by the Japanese puppet regime had penetrated into northern Jiangsu.Cultural construction work in the base areas was highly valued by the Communist Party.The magnificent cultural construction of the northern Jiangsu base area,with its large scale,abundant achievements and wide influence,was second only to Yan’an and ranked first among other base areas.It not only made the general public aware of the danger of cultural invasion by Japanese and puppet regime,liberated them from their benighted mind,but also played a huge role in the consolidation of the base area and even the victory of the Anti Japanese War.A comprehensive and systematic study of the cultural construction of the base areas in northern Jiangsu can help enrich the research on the base areas and also enrich the research on cultural construction during the Anti Japanese War.This article was divided into five parts.It was specifically focused on analyzing the necessity,possibility and main content of cultural construction in the northern Jiangsu base area with further discussion on characteristics,effectiveness,historical experience and practical inspiration.The main content was constructed as follow.The first section was analysis on the necessity and possibility of cultural construction in the northern Jiangsu base area.The need of resisting Japanese invasion to save the nation,the inadequate cultural proficiency of residents,the cultural dictatorship of the Kuo Min Tang(KMT)government and the spiritual slavery of the Japanese puppet regime,have called for cultural construction in the northern Jiangsu base area.The leadership of CPC and the revolutionary cultural tradition in northern Jiangsu made it possible for the base areas in northern Jiangsu to carry out cultural construction.In the second section,main content of cultural construction in the base areas of northern Jiangsu has been sorted from four aspects that were education,publishing,literary and artistic creation,as well as cultural organization.Education was summarized from general education,social education and cadre education.An overview of publishing was performed from books,newspapers and printing industry;Literary and artistic creation can be divided into literary creation,drama creation,song creation and artistic creation.Funing Cultural Village,Huhai Art and Culture Society,local cultural troupes and Xin’an Travel Group were introduced in the description of Cultural organizations part.The third part analyzes the characteristics of cultural construction in the base areas of Northern Jiangsu.First,it is characterized by the times with the theme of saving the country through the War of Resistance.Secondly,it is flexible to carry out cultural construction work in difficult environments.Thirdly,it has popularity and promotes the popularization of literature and art.The fourth is to have locality and revitalize local culture.Effectiveness of cultural construction in the northern Jiangsu base area was explored in the fourth section.It has promoted the consolidation and development of the base areas,improved the ideological and cultural qualities of the military and civilians.Most significantly,it has provided favorable conditions for winning the War of Resistance Against Japanese Invasion.The final section was the summary of historical and practical implications of cultural construction in the northern Jiangsu base area.The historical implications revealed that the leadership of the CPC is the fundamental guarantee for the cultural construction of the base area.Carrying out work around the central task of the Party was the inevitable requirement for the cultural construction of the base area.Serving the people was the fundamental direction of the cultural construction of the base area and the intellectual was an important force in the cultural construction of the base area.At the current stage,socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era.Cultural construction faces new problems and challenges,but the historical experience of cultural construction in the northern Jiangsu base area is still shining,giving valuable practical enlightenment to cultural construction in the new era,that is,adhere to the leadership of the CPC in the cultural construction of the new era,adhere to the direction of serving the people,adhere to the training of cultural talents and adhere to hard work and spirit that is not afraid of sacrifice.
