| This translation practice report portrays the process of translation and analysis related to the Training Text of the Management of Pharmaceutical Clinical Trials(GCP,Good Clinical Practice),based on the translator’s working experience in the pharmaceutical industry, aiming to explore the application of Eugene A.Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory to the Chinese translation of scientific and technological texts. The text of this management code was initially registered in the United States in 1997 to ensure that the process of drug clinical trials is standardized, the results are scientific and reliable, and the rights and interests of human participants are protected and their safety is guaranteed. Its text type belongs to scientific and technological text, with its stylistic feature that is used a large number of professional terms with clear concepts and fixed meanings.Strict use of standard written language, colloquial rejection, avoidance the use of ambiguous sentences, synonyms are requested.Secondly,a large number of declarative sentences are used, and the expression of narration, explanation and discussion is usually used, excluding lyrical description and deliberate rendering.Thirdly,a large number of complex sentences are used, among which conditional complex sentences, hypothetical complex sentences, causal complex sentences are used more frequently.Nida’s Theory of Functional Equivalence mainly covers four aspects: lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence, which points out that "translation does not seek rigid correspondence on the surface of the text, but the most appropriate, natural and equivalent language is recommended for usage to reproduce the information of the source language from semantics to stylistics".In translation,it is necessary to get rid of the barriers of the source language, changing the style of writing according to the language habits of the target language, achieving functional equivalence and improving the quality of the translation. The guiding principles of Functional Equivalence Theory are further summarized as Conveyance of Information,Reproduction of Style,Expressiveness of Language and Response from Readers.Consequently, the views contained in the Functional Equivalence Theory are similar to the requirements of the translation of scientific and technological texts to a large extent, which has a certain guiding role for the translation of scientific and technological texts. It is proved objectively that the theory is suitable for the translation guidance of the Training Text of the Management of Pharmaceutical Clinical Trials(GCP,Good Clinical Practice).Guided by the above four principles, this report explores the Chinese translation strategy of scientific and technological texts from the perspectives of lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence and textual equivalence. With the help of the translation skills learned, the target language should be concise and smooth, which can reflect the guiding principles of Functional Equivalence Theory. The report of translation practice dug out that Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory is helpful to the translation of scientific and technological texts, and the translation strategies proposed by Nida’s can provide reference value for the translation of scientific and technological texts. It is hoped that this report can offer reference for the translation of similar texts and relevant researches,so as to promote the text analysis of Chinese as the target language from the perspective of international translation theory. |
