A Study On The Use Of English As A Medium Of Instruction In Chinese Classrooms Abroad

In the context of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,the medium of instruction plays an important role.This paper focuses on the use of English medium in Indonesian Chinese classrooms.Based on previous studies,this paper explores the feasibility and necessity of using English medium in Indonesian Chinese classrooms through questionnaire surveys and classroom observations,discusses the advantages and disadvantages of its use based on data analysis,and then explores the frequency and methods of teachers’ scientific and rational use of medium.This thesis is divided into four main parts.The first part focuses on the background of the topic,the significance of the study and an overview of the research and theoretical approaches at home and abroad.In the second part,a questionnaire survey is conducted with Chinese language teachers and students at the Confucius Institute of Malang National University to analyse the use of English medium by teachers at different stages of teaching.The third part presents the results of the actual teaching and analysis of the different levels of Chinese classroom observation,documenting and analysing the Chinese classroom at the Confucius Institute in Malang from an objective perspective.In the fourth section,the results of the survey and classroom observations are combined with theories of Chinese language teaching to distil the overall characteristics of Chinese language teaching at the Confucius Institute in Malang and to provide concluding reflections.The fifth section discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the English medium in the light of the results of the survey,and gives suggestions for improving the teaching.Finally,the concluding remarks summarise the paper and suggest the shortcomings and areas for improvement of this study.
