The Study Of Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency And Its Published Mathematics Textbooks

The late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China was an important historical period in the transformation of Chinese mathematics education from traditional mathematics education to modern mathematics education.During this period,various compilation agencies compiled and wrote mathematics textbooks for schools of all levels and types to meet the need of the shortage of textbooks in China at that time,and Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency was one of them.Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency was a compiling and publishing organization in the late Qing Dynasty and Republic of China.It provided many excellent mathematics textbooks for China’s mathematics education,and the textbooks were written with certain characteristics.However,there is no unified and correct understanding of Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency in the academic field.Some scholars do not hold the same views on it,and even some views are different from historical materials.Therefore,it is worthwhile to discuss in depth about Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency and the mathematics textbooks published by it,which need to be sorted out and analyzed.This thesis is the study of Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency and the mathematics textbooks it publishes.It attempts to understand the basic information of Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency,the books it publishes and its influence.To collate the mathematics textbooks published by Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency,and research the characteristics of these mathematics textbooks,as well as their influence and inspiration on the current textbook writing.Firstly,through documentary analysis,we will understand the basic information of Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency and its publications,and then recognize the history of the development of Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency.Second,we will study the mathematics textbooks of Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency with a focus on the mathematics writings of Chen Wen by means of case analysis.Then,we will research the characteristics and influence of these mathematics textbooks.Finally,on this basis,the study will provide some inspiration and reference for the writing of current mathematics textbooks.The main results and conclusions of this thesis study were obtained as follows:(1)Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency,a physical publishing organization relying on the Ke Xuehui Organization in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.It was established in Shanghai and founded in 1904 by the students of the late Qing Dynasty who stayed in Japan from Guangdong Province and Guangxi Province represented by Chen Wen,surviving until at least 1944.It known for compiling natural science textbooks(especially mathematics),with the main authors include Chen Wen,He Chongli,Zeng Yan,Gong Wenkai,Zheng Jiabin,Ma Junwu,Wei Jing and others.According to statistics,Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency has published at least 99 books,covering "all subjects of arts,science and technology",of which at least 49 are mathematics textbooks.The typical representatives of the copyright certificates of the publications of Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency are the " Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency " and the "Collection Edition of Ke Xuehui " copyright stamps,and the "Asia Chart" copyright stamps.(2)To collect information about the life of Chen Wen,the main operator of Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency.To compare the specific knowledge points of Chen Wen’s mathematics writings with those of the current mathematics textbooks,and to explore their influence and inspiration on the current mathematics textbooks.The study finds that " Translate first,compile later,and combine" is a distinctive feature of Chen’s writings.The pragmatic mathematics textbooks written by him have contributed to the spread of pragmatic educational ideas in China.In the process of "translation to editing",Chen Wen noted the systematic arrangement of the content of mathematics teaching,and improved his writings according to the Chinese teaching reality,making the mathematics textbooks more suitable for the Chinese teaching practice at that time.(3)Analyze the mathematics textbooks published by Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency in five dimensions: compilation(writing)background,compilation(writing)philosophy,format,content coverage,and characteristics of the materials.It shows that the textbooks meet the requirements of the curriculum standards at that time,adopt horizontal layout from left to right,use Western mathematical symbols and Arabic numerals for expression,and the layout structure is basically the same as that of the current primary and secondary school mathematics textbooks.The following characteristics have been identified in the mathematics textbooks compiled by Ke Xuehui Compilation Agency: They were systematic and integrated.They covered a wide range of knowledge.They were written to facilitate the teaching and learning of mathematics.They attached importance to the application of mathematical knowledge.Finally,based on the above findings,the author propose to enhance the rigor,practicality,self-study and extension of textbook contents as well as focus on the penetration of mathematical ideas and methods for reference in the writing of current mathematics textbooks.
