A Report On The Simulated Simultaneous Interpreting For SKODA Auto Annual Press Conference 2022

The 2022 Skoda Auto Press Conference is an annual summary meeting hosted by Skoda,the Czech car brand under the Volkswagen Group.The keynote speakers of this conference are all industry leaders and elites,discussing the auto industry’s response measures and future development directions under the conditions of COVID-19 pandemic and intensified war between Russia and Ukraine.The press conference is rich in content and suitable for an interpreter to simulate simultaneous interpreting tasks.In this interpreting report,the author introduces the background and characteristics of the task,including task preparation,interpreting process,and post-interpreting evaluation;the author chooses the press conference of the automobile industry for simulated simultaneous interpreting,and summarizes the problems encountered in the process of simultaneous interpreting: special terms,high density information,and semantic ambiguity;the author uses Interpretive Theory to guide the case analysis,and proposes interpreting tactics such as amplification,generalization,simplification,zero translation and explanation;finally,the author sorts out the entire interpreting task and summarizes the insufficiency and experience of this interpreting task.By simulating the interpreting task of the automobile industry,the author can have a general understanding of the automobile industry,which lays the foundation for future interpreting work in related industries.In addition,the author’s theoretical knowledge and interpreting abilities can be improved by combining Interpretive Theory and interpreting tactics to deal with problems encountered in the interpreting process.
