The premier’s press conference after the two sessions is an important platform to declare China’s policy in various fields to the public as well as the international community. Being the bridge for communication at the press conference, the interpreter plays an essential role. During the interpretation, many factors can bring about pressure for the interpreter subtly. This thesis is a simulated simultaneous interpreting practice of the Premier Li’s press conference after the 4th session of the 12 th National People’s Congress. Under the guidance of Gile’s five ‘laws’ in the selection of tactics in simultaneous interpreting, the author simulated this press conference and made a case study of it. The thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter one contains the background information of the press conference and the structure of the thesis. Chapter two is the theoretical basis of the practice report. Chapter three is the description of the simulated practice, including preparation before the simulated interpretation and process of the practice. As the most important chapter, chapter four analyzes the transcript of the interpretation after completing the simulated practice, and also offers coping strategies for obstacles in the interpretation. The last chapter summarizes the significance and limitations of the simulated practice. |
