Design education has developed over a hundred years since the Industrial Revolution.In the development of design education in China and Japan over the past hundred years,there are certain objective laws.With the development process of digital design from popularization to upgrading to disguised phase,contemporary design has undergone rapid changes,which has gone beyond the simple visual image level and tends to be more comprehensive,systematic and trans-boundary.In 2022,the Ministry of Education officially moved the discipline of "design" out of the original discipline of "art" and put it into the category of "interdisciplinary",indicating that the country has a new demand for talents cultivated by "design".By combing and comparing the curriculum setting and the relevant social background in the parallel period of the development of design education in China and Japan,this thesis explores the objective law contained in the subject changes,and studies the deficiencies of the current design education curriculum through questionnaires from the aspect of social needs based on the law,so as to provide curriculum improvement suggestions for the transformation of "design science".This thesis aims to explore the similarities and differences of design education in China and Japan and the historical,cultural and social factors behind it by comparing the development of design education courses in China and Japan.The thesis is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the background,purpose,significance and research methods.The second chapter explores the origin of the design education curriculum between China and Japan in modern times,analyzes the collision and integration of western modern design concepts and Oriental traditional culture,as well as the similarities and differences between the two countries in the process of education reform and modernization.The third chapter mainly describes the development of design education curriculum between China and Japan during the period of arts and crafts,expounds the characteristics and mutual learning of design education between the two countries during this period,and also points out the differences and deficiencies in the field of arts and crafts education between the two countries.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the improvement of the design education curriculum between China and Japan during the art design period,analyzes the changes of the educational concept,teaching content and teaching methods during the art design period,as well as the common progress and differences of the two countries’ design education during this period.The fifth chapter expounds the improvement suggestions of the design education curriculum in the cross-disciplinary period,and explores the shortcomings of the existing design education curriculum from the perspective of students by comparing it with Japan in the form of questionnaire.The last chapter is the conclusion.It summarizes the development trend and existing problems of design education in China and Japan from the aspects of design education purpose,concept,curriculum setting and teaching methods,and puts forward the enlightenment and suggestions of design education curriculum setting in China and Japan.By comparing the development course of design education courses in China and Japan,this thesis reveals the development track and comparative analysis of design education in the two countries,which has certain theoretical and practical significance for improving the teaching quality and level of design education in China and broadening students’ horizons and ideas.At the same time,this thesis also puts forward some inspirations and suggestions for the development of design education in China and Japan,such as further clarifying the purpose and positioning of design education,promoting the diversification and innovation of courses,strengthening the construction of teachers,and paying attention to practical operation and comprehensive application.I hope this thesis can make some contributions to the development and exchange of design education between China and Japan.
