Translation Practice Report On The Drug Prescription From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

This report is based on the translation project—DARZALEX prescription from Janssen United States,a subsidiary of Johnson&Johnson(USA)—during the author's internship at a medical translation company.In this report,the author describes the process of translation,summarizes the characteristics of the source text and the difficulties in translation,and under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,chooses the appropriate translation methods and techniques for the translation of the medical expository text.The source text belongs to expository text,which has strong practicability and specialty.In addition to a large number of professional instructions,the source text also contains some expressions with promotional functions.Therefore,in the process of translation,the translator should not only transfer the information in the same way to the target readers but also ensure the translated text has the same function as the source text.The problems encountered by the author in translation can be divided into three levels:the lexical level,the syntactic level,and the textual level.In order to realize the effective transmission of information and solve the problems encountered in translation,the author chooses Nida's functional equivalence theory as the guiding theory,and based on this theory,adopts the translation methods and techniques,such as zero translation,amplification,conversion,repetition.It is expected that this report can provide a reference for the practice of English-Chinese translation of the medical texts.
