A Report On The Translation Project Of The Comics The No.1 Superstar (Excerpt)

Comics translation is now viral on the internet and Chinese comics have gained a portion overseas market,but is still in the initial period due to insufficient translation.In order to launch more Chinese comics into the world as a way to communicate Chinese culture and life to the world,it is necessary for us to engage in this important work.As one of the comics translated by the author of this report and well received by the readers,some parts of this version of The No.1 Superstar are chosen as the source text for this report.The Report deals with the Translation Project of the Comics The No.1 Superstar based on a translation practice from June to December 2021.It is divided into five chapters.Chapter One describes the project and the story of The No.1 Superstar,in which the task’s rough timeline and its main achievements are stated.Chapter Two mainly introduces constituent parts of the comics translation,requirements laid out by the client,and principles intuitively followed by the translator.Moreover,they are gradually substantiated as akin to Function Plus Loyalty Theory.Chapter Three describes three stages of the entire translation task in detail.In stage one,the translator,who has undertaken the translation task,gives a description of how she made preparation,analyzed the source text,and built her own parallel corpus for later use.Stage two makes a depiction of the steps she followed in the translation,which include the construction and updates of the Glossary and procedures for quality assurance to reduce minor mistakes.Stage three is about revising and proofreading,with feedback from her mentor,the PM,the client,and the readers.Chapter Four contains three types of case analysis,i.e.,elements,dialogues,and sentences,and provides translation strategies adopted for names,nicknames,titles,interjections,onomatopoeias,idioms,swear,as well as simple,compound,and complex sentences.Chapter Five summarizes the report,including findings and inadequacies that could be further improved in the future.
