It goes without saying that law is becoming more and more important in modernsociety. As communication among countries in politics, economics and culture increasesgradually, the importance is more obvious. Since China’s accession to WTO, translationof laws and regulations between Chinese and English has been more necessary.This translation practice report is based on author’s translation task of Crime SceneInvestigation, Criminalistics, and the Law, including the introduction, research andsummary about procedure and completion of the task. This report consists of four majorparts, the text analysis, the process description, the case analysis and the summery&conclusion. The text analysis and process description give an overall introduction aboutthe task, including the features of the source text and expected functions of the target text,and also the detailed steps to fulfill the task. The case analysis part is the essence of thisreport, using the English version of Crime Scene Investigation, Criminalistics, and theLaw as analyzing material. In this part, the author conducts an analysis about its stylecharacteristics, then an initial research and exploration is made on the law translationstrategy and skills. In the summery&conclusion part, the author generalizes sometranslation strategies and skills on law translation, and talks about some feelings throughthe fulfillment of the task.In the process of translation, the author has been faced with many problems astranslating of legal terms, long sentences, and the interrogative sentences etc. The authoris to study possible approaches to resolve the problems. In addition to translation skills,the author mainly use translating in omission, amplification, interrogative sentences intodeclarative sentences, and passive voice into active voice to analyze the translatedversion, aiming at getting a fairy good version.
