A Correlation Study On Senior High School Students’ Multiple Intelligences And Acceptance Of English Mobile Learning

With the innovation of technology,English Mobile learning has received growing attention in research.This new way of learning has provided students with different learning needs and different intelligences tendency.Intelligence,an individual difference variable,is considered a profound factor and has received an increasing amount of attention in the literature on second language learning.Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences theory is presented as a cognitive perspective on intelligence which has significant implications for education in general.The theory of Multiple Intelligences proposed by Professor Gardner mainly focuses on the differences of students’ intelligence,and at the same time pays attention to the improvement of students’ integrated development.This research aims to study senior high school students with different intelligence tendency on the acceptance of M-learning,which is mainly reflected on the four dimensions of UTAUT2 model,namely,Performance Expectancy,Social Influence,Price Value as well as Hedonic Motivation.The characteristics of Mlearning has provided effective support and possibility for the concept of Multiple Intelligences theory.In such teaching idea,it is of great importance and necessity to pay much attention to students’ personal factors and analyze how these factors affect students’ mobile learning acceptance.Therefore,guided by the theory of Multiple Intelligences and M-learning,the study explores the relationship between senior high school students’ Multiple Intelligences and their acceptance of M-learning.The study is intended to answer the following research questions:(1)What is the current situation of learners’ English M-learning in senior high school? How is the acceptance of English M-leaning?(2)What is the distribution tendency of Multiple Intelligences in senior high school?(3)How do eight Multiple Intelligences influence students’ acceptance of English M-learning? To what degree do the different dimensions affect English M-learning?There were 340 participants in this survey,consisting of 173 from municipal high school and 167 from county high school.Two instruments,a questionnaire and a structured interview,were adopted to explore the correlation between the acceptance of English M-learning and the Multiple Intelligences of senior high school students.The results of the research indicates that:(1)Senior high school students’ intelligences ranked from the strongest to weakest are as follows: Intrapersonal Intelligence,Musical Intelligence,Natural Intelligence,Logical-mathematical Intelligence,Spatial Intelligence,Bodily-kinesthetic Intelligence,Interpersonal Intelligence,Linguistic Intelligence.As for senior high school students’ acceptance of M-learning,the means of the four dimensions from the highest to the lowest is as follow: Performance Expectancy,Social Influence,Price Value,Hedonic Motivation.(2)Gender and school type do have a difference on the acceptance of M-learning,but not positively significant in all four dimensions.Girls’ Performance Expectancy,Social Influence and Hedonic Motivation are higher than boys,but their Price Value is less than boys.County High School students’ Performance Expectancy,Social Influence,Hedonic Motivation and Price Value are higher than municipal high school students.(3)Not all the eight intelligences are positively related to the four dimensions of students’ acceptance.Specifically,all the eight intelligences are positively related to students’ Performance Expectancy and Social Influence.Students’ Hedonic Motivation is positively related to Linguistic Intelligence,Logical-mathematical Intelligence,Bodily-kinesthetic Intelligence and Naturalist Intelligence,but is not related to other four intelligences.Students’ Price Value has no correlation with all the eight intelligences.(4)Additionally,according to the results of regression analysis,it could be drawn from the results that Performance Expectancy is the mostly affected by Multiple Intelligences and Social Influence is the least likely to be influenced.Linguistic Intelligence contributes to 37.0% of the variance on Performance Expectancy.Linguistic Intelligence and Interpersonal Intelligence contributes to 35.6% of the variance on Social Influence.In light of the research findings,this paper puts forward some pedagogical implications from the perspectives of teachers,students as well as education authorities,relating to M-learning and Multiple Intelligences.
