With the deepening of educational reform and the continuous advancement of quality-oriented education,the teaching goal has changed from comprehensive language ability to diversified and multi-directional development of students.It requires that English teaching should be open to all students and lay a foundation for the all-round development of each student.Researchers at home and abroad continue to pay attention to the cultivation of students’ multiple intelligences,which requires teachers to dig deeply into students’ inner potential,and pay attention to the cultivation of students’ multiple intelligences on the basis of fully understanding students’ characteristics and respecting students’ individual differences.The individual difference of students is closely related to the development of students’ intelligence.Therefore,teachers should conduct teaching based on the current situation of students’ multiple intelligence to promote the development of students’ individual.This paper puts forward the following three questions to reveal the status quo of the cultivation of multiple intelligences in English teaching:1.What is the overall distribution of multiple intelligence among high school students?2.What is general situation of the cultivation of multiple intelligence for English teachers?3.What are the problems and causes existing in the cultivation of multiple intelligence?In order to solve the above research problems,the author takes 260 students and30 English teachers from No.1 Senior High School in M city as the survey objects to conduct a questionnaire survey of students and teachers.Then,5 students and 5English teachers are interviewed respectively through the research methods of student interview and teacher interview.Based on the theory of eight multiple intelligences proposed by Gardner,the survey of students and teachers is divided into eight dimensions,which are linguistic intelligence,logical-mathematical intelligence,spatial intelligence,bodily-kinesthetic intelligence,musical intelligence,interpersonal intelligence,intrapersonal intelligence and naturalist intelligence.The purpose is to understand the distribution and cultivation of high school students’ multiple intelligence,and teachers’ problems and causes in the process of training high school students’ multiple intelligences.Based on the above research,it can be concluded that:(1)The development of multiple intelligences of high school students is optimistic,and students are more inclined to English teaching activities based on interpersonal intelligence,intrapersonal intelligence and naturalist intelligence;(2)Teachers’ attention to the cultivation of students’ multiple intelligences in the teaching process varies significantly,with teachers focusing on cultivating students’ linguistic and interpersonal intelligences in English teaching and paying insufficient attention to spatial and bodily-kinesthetic intelligences.;(3)There are problems such as uneven development of students’ multiple intelligences by teachers due to multiple influences in English teaching.This is a revelation and a challenge for English teachers to stimulate students’ various intelligences in their teaching.Therefore,this paper makes suggestions to high school students and teachers through the investigation and research based on multiple intelligences,in order to promote the cultivation of multiple intelligences in the teaching of English teachers.
