Sutra painting is a unique color of Chinese Buddhist art.In the Tang Dynasty caves of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes,the warp paintings are characterized by magnificent momentum,rich content,ingenious conception and high artistic standards,and occupy a place in the history of Chinese art.This paper takes the painting of Fa Hua sutra painting in Cave 23 of Mogao Grottoes as the research object to illustrate the innovative exploration and outstanding achievements of Fa Hua sutra painting in content,image and artistic characteristics during the prosperous Tang Dynasty.Then compare it with the handed down art works,the tomb murals of the same period,and other cave murals in the Mogao Grottoes to analyze the schema-source of Fa Hua sutra painting.This paper summarizes the influence of the Fa Hua sutra painting of the prosperous Tang Dynasty on the pattern of Fa Hua sutra painting of the later generations.The innovation of Fa Hua sutra painting in the prosperous Tang Dynasty of Mogao Grottoes is mainly reflected in the following aspects: first,the contents of the items increased from the single theme of "two Buddhas sitting together" in the early period to fourteen items.Second,instead of merely reproducing "Xukonghui",the story of "Seven Metaphors of Fa Hua" is transformed into an interesting one.Third,more secular images are incorporated into the image reproduction,which changes from a simple religious propaganda to a creative idea combining religious thoughts with real life.Fourth,more optimization in the combination of various products,such as the use of landscape painting background,create a picture atmosphere;Add decorative elements to connect the divine world with the human world,enrich the picture content and cater to the theme.The reason for the formation of the Fa Hua sutra painting in the prosperous Tang Dynasty is related to the group foundation of the Fa Hua belief in the Sui and Tang Dynasties,the powder text and schema spread in the Central Plains,and the painting artists used the western expression form of pure land transformation for reference in the process of image creation,that is,the successful exploration of the Fa Hua meridian transformation schema is created by a variety of elements,and the formed schema structure has an influence on the future generations.It reflects the inheritance spirit of Dunhuang artisans and the inclusiveness of Dunhuang art.
