Brecht is a dramatist who influenced the world of theater, and his poetry is as powerful and influential as his plays. This paper analyzes the internal reasons for the poetic character of Brecht’s plays in terms of the interaction between his poetry and drama, and also explores the external sources of Brecht’s poetic theatrical concept in terms of Chinese opera performance theory,Russian formalist poetic theory of strangeness, and Marx’s theory of alienation.Through the analysis of the reasons, the author observes that Brecht’s theatrical creation embodies certain poetic characteristics, which is very representative in the theater world. The purpose of this paper is to reinterpret Brecht’s plays from the perspective of poetry,in order to broaden the research ideas and perspectives of Brecht’s plays. The innovation of this paper lies in observing Brecht’s plays from a poetic perspective and deciphering the new meanings and connotations possessed by their key dramatic terms. The poetic approach, the poetic connotation, and the realist function of poeticization can be explored in three aspects, which correspond to strangeness, the concept of epic drama, and realistic intervention and criticism. In addition, with the help of Lehman’s post-drama theater theory,I found that post-drama theater is an extension of poetic theater, and the poetic presentation of post-Brecht theater is the processing, deepening, and supplementing of Brecht’s theater theory,as well as a possible way for Brecht’s theater theory to break through. The poetic presentation of post-Brecht theater is a way to process, deepen, and supplement Brecht’s theater theory, and may be a way to make a breakthrough. In addition, the author points out the problems and drawbacks of Brecht’s poetic theater, but also affirms its positive significance to the development of theater in China today.
