Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge is a deciduous shrub or small tree species of the genus Xanthoceras,which is a unique oil bearing tree species in China.Currently,research on the nutrition and active substances of Xanthoceras sorbifolium fruit is focused on.From the perspectives of nutrition and medicine,the leaves of Xanthoceras sorbifolia have high utilization value.But there are relatively few reports on the chemical composition and activity of Xanthoceras sorbifolia leaves.This study used 15 different sources of Xanthoceras sorbifolia cultivated in Shandong Xanthoceras germplasm resource nursery as experimental materials.By measuring the relevant indicators of Xanthoceras sorbifolia individual plants at different time periods,the differences in phenotypic characteristics,nutrients,medicinal components,and antioxidant activity substances were compared and analyzed.Principal component analysis,cluster analysis,a preliminary comprehensive evaluation and screening of different individual plants of leaf used Xanthoceras sorbifolia was conducted,providing a theoretical basis for the optimization of leaf used Xanthoceras sorbifolia,and providing reference for the comprehensive development,utilization,and industrial development of leaf used Xanthoceras sorbifolia.The main results are as follows:(1)There is a significant difference in leaf surface type indicators among different individual plants of Xanthoceras sorbifolia;From May to July,the leaf dry weight,leaf fresh weight,small leaf area,and specific leaf weight of different individual plants showed an overall upward trend;Only the water content shows a downward trend.(2)From May to July,the soluble protein content,lysine content,total flavonoid content,total saponin content,and total polyphenol content in the leaves of different individual plants of Xanthoceras sorbifolia showed an overall downward trend.The content of polysaccharides in the leaves showed an overall upward trend,with individual plant 436 showing an increase of 58.48%.There is a significant positive correlation between total flavonoids and their antioxidant activity,total saponins and their antioxidant activity,total polyphenols and their antioxidant activity,polysaccharides and their antioxidant activity in different months.(3)The leaves of Xanthoceras sorbifolia in different months have high coefficient of variation in phenotypic indicators other than water content,indicating that Xanthoceras sorbifolia leaves have rich phenotypic diversity.Moreover,the main medicinal ingredients and their antioxidant activities exhibit varying degrees of variation,with rich types of variation and great potential for selection.(4)By using principal component analysis and cluster analysis to compare and analyze different individual plants and their sources of Xanthoceras sorbifolia,we ultimately selected315,426,605,645,and 685 as excellent individual plants of Xanthoceras sorbifolia.According to different sources,the individual plants of Xanthoceras sorbifolia in May and July can be divided into higher nutrient content sources: Bayan Zhuoer,Jianping,Chifeng,Changj,Qinyang,Fengtai and Chaoyang.The sources of high levels of medicinal ingredients and antioxidant activity are Wengniud Banner in Inner Mongolia and Zhangjiakou in Hebei.The source of good leaf surface type indicators is Yinchuan in Ningxia.
