This report is an English-Chinese translation practice report. The original text is taken from Landscaping Solutions for Small Spaces published by the well-known British garden designer Ann-Mary Powell in 2012.The author proposed 10 garden landscape design schemes of different styles, aiming to make the small garden into a multifunctional space through plant planting, furniture placement and reasonable layout. The original style is beautiful and rigorous, with more than hundreds of beautiful pictures, sharing various practical gardening knowledge. The translator selected the first chapter(Urban Garden)and the second chapter(Edible Garden)as the translation text. The Chinese translation of the selected materials intends to introduce and disseminate new landscape design concepts to the country, conforms to the current concept of "accelerating the reform of the ecological civilization system and building a beautiful China",and fits people’s livelihood dimension proposed by the 19th CPC National Congress. This translation practice report consists of four chapters, which are the description of the translation project, the translation process, case analysis and summary. In order to better reproduce the information of the original text, the translator adopted Eugene Nida’s "functional equivalence"as the theoretical basis, and adopted sequential translation, reverse translation, negation, restructuring and other translation methods flexibly. For objective statements in the original text, the translator adopted literal translation to convey the information of the original text in concise and accurate language. As for complex sentences, the translator changed the form of the original text in the translation,so as to form the translation in line with the Chinese expression, which can better convey information. The translator hopes that this translation practice report can provide some reference and inspiration for landscape designers and translation practitioners in related fields.
