A Report On Simulated Interpreting Of "HUAWEI’s HarmonyOS 2 And All-scenario New Product Launch Event In 2021"

On June 2,2021,HU A WEI held a new HarmonyOS operating system and all-scenario new product launch in the form of an online launch,bringing the self-researched HarmonyOS 2 and several hardware products to global consumers.I used the event as material for a simulated consecutive interpreting and compared and analyzed my own interpretation with that of the on-site professional interpreter.This report consists of four parts:the introduction,task description,case study and conclusion.With the help of the UMEER framework,the deficiencies in the simulated interpreting are categorized from the following four aspects:understanding,memorizing,expression and emergency response,and the causes of the deficiencies,based on Daniel Gill’s Effort Model,are analyzed from the following four aspects:unsatisfactory listening and analysis effort,unsatisfactory short-term memory effort,unsatisfactory production effort and unsatisfactory coordination effort.Through the case study,I analyzed the gap between my own interpretation and that of the professional interpreter’s and proposed specific solutions in the summary based on my reflection and analysis.It was found that the following methods can be adopted to help interpreters coordinate their brain resources and distribute their effort rationally.In the understanding and memorizing phases,interpreters should internalize background knowledge and make reasonable use of notes and PPT.And in the expression and emergency response phases,emotion management and adaptation methods such as omission,explanation,explicitation of logic,generalization and reconstruction are of great help in achieving complete,concise and fluent delivery of meaning.Through this simulated interpreting,I have got a deeper understanding of the distribution of effort and the application of various interpreting methods in the interpreting process.I hope that this report can provide some implications on the distribution of effort and the application of interpreting methods for interpreters of technology conference.
