From July 17,2021 to July 18,2021,the 7thChina Association for Translation,Interpreting, and Cognition(CATIC)Session was held. The conference was themed"International Symposium on Translation and Interpretation as Social Interaction:Emotion,Behavior and Cognition".Due to the impact of COVID-19,this year’s forum was held online. The author audited the conference online and recorded the whole process.According to the recorded materials, the author conducted simulated interpretation practice of the conference, focusing on the contents of the session on interpreting and cognition.Based on this simulation task, the content of this report is from four aspects:task description, process review, case analysis and conclusion. In the part of task description, the author describes the the background information of the conference as ell as the key points that should be paid attention to in the practice of academic interpreting.Process review includes task preparation, simulated simultaneous interpretation practice and post-task evaluation. In the case analysis section, the author objectively describes the difficulties in the process of simultaneous interpreting simulation, including the academic terms of cognitive interpreting, high density of information and fast speech rate of the source language. With the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model, this report analyzes the above difficulties and the author’s simultaneous interpreting simulation performance, and discusses the corresponding solutions and interpretation strategies to deal with each difficulty. For example, making reasonable anticipation and inference of unfamiliar academic terms based on background knowledge and the context, adopting syntactic linearity strategy to reduce the burden of fast speed source language on short-term memory, and using the strategy of generalization and summary to simplify high-density information,so as to achieve a balance between the source language and the target language. In the last part of the conclusion, based on the simulation practice of simultaneous interpreting, the author puts forward several suggestions for the future training and education of simultaneous interpreting,so as to improve the future learning and practice. |
