| Xia Li-shu(1690-1754),whose courtesy name was Guan Chuan,was a Jinshi in the 60th year of Kangxi(1721).Xia Li-shu was a famous Neo-Confucianist.His Notes on Reading Du Fu was selected and compiled on the basis of Annotations to Du Fu’s Poetry.They had the compiling purpose of learning from the world and had written requirements in form.Although they were similar in content,they could not be regarded as the same kind of book.Notes on Reading Du Fu is the result of Xia Li-shu’s selection,revision,arrangement and rewriting of Annotations to Du Fu’s Poetry.It is completely different from the latter in nature.We can regard it as a part of the final draft of Annotations to Du Fu’s Poetry in a sense.At the same time,Notes on Reading Du Fu is also Xia’s deathbed year,the book pays the younger generation,the theory of the world,its ideological significance is particularly worthy of academic attention.Notes on Reading Du Fu shows Xia Li-shu’s core views on Du Fu’s poetics:First,Du Fu felt that Tang Suzong did not respect Xuanzong,and his father and son lost their relationship.After Qianyuan,he no longer had a strong desire to be an official as before;Second,Du Fu’s thought is rooted in the old Buddha,Confucius and Mencius second,in art is Zu Dou Wen Xuan,six classics second;Third,although Du Fu was rooted in the old Buddha,he was not necessarily successful in the true meaning of Buddhism and Taoism,so that he did not distinguish the differences among Confucianism,Taoism and Buddhism.This confused understanding enables him to express those thoughts contrary to Confucianism in his poems without scruple,so that his creation can reach the situation of self-frankness,and his courage,knowledge,talent and strength can be freely developed,thus creating one masterpiece after another.Xia’s comments on Du Fu,repraising him,rebuilding his image,not flattering his merits,not covering up his faults,can be said to be pertinent and sincere,and Du Fu’s thoughts are more comprehensive and objective,shaping a more complete and real poet image.The significance of Xia Li-shu’s Notes on Reading Du Fu in the ideological level is worthy of academic attention.He inherited and developed Qian Qianyi’s annotation,abandoned the traditional tendency of not forgetting the monarch at a meal,put Du Fu’s ethical temperament before his loyalty,attached importance to the change of Du Fu’s origin,explored his inner world,restored Du Fu’s inner struggle and choice between Xuan and Su,and attached importance to the edification of Buddhism and Taoism to Du Fu.An overall analysis of Du Fu and his poems.This book is also handed down from ancient times,and its ideological value is high,so introducing it to the world can supplement the legacy of Du Fu’s poetics in Qing Dynasty. |
