Research On Frog Worship In Zhuang Folk Narrative

In Zhuang folklore system,frog worship has a prominent position.However,there are still many controversies about frog worship : the diverse opinions about frog worship,the plurality of frog images in different regions of the Zhuang,and the different interpretations of frogs by Zhuang masters......Frog worship is characterized by multiple meanings,ambiguities and uncertainties in scholars’ analytical studies.The purpose of this paper is to respond to the controversy of Zhuang frog worship through a refined analysis of Zhuang folk narrative texts in the Red River valley.Folk narratives are created by the crowds.Folk narratives are the concentrated expression of people’s thoughts,emotions and concepts,which have internal stability.The polysemy of frog worship makes it possible to study textual narratives with a more stable internal structure.The main part of the thesis is a study of the frog texts,the distribution of the texts,the motif of the frog stories,the evolution of the narrative.On the one hand,the part analyze texts about frog and their motifs.The Zhuang folklore still preserves rich frogs narrative texts,which contain the history,culture and psychological consciousness of the ethnic group.The motif of Zhuang frog stories include the motif of rainfall and field protection,the motif of conquest and salvation,the motif of death rituals and the motif of human-frog marriage.In the long-term historical development process,Zhuang folk narratives have formed commonality or individuality among the motifs.The core motif is paddy produce.On the other hand,the transformation process from Thor to Frog reveals that the Zhuang frog worship originates from the Thor,who is the representative of the god of rain.Finally,the article focuses on the Frog Festival,which is closely connected with the text.The Frog Festival reflect the people’s customs and beliefs.The transmission and distribution areas of the festival overlap highly with the text of frog cult.The process of the festival reflects the ancient frog cult,such as female fertility worship,the agricultural demand for good weather,the memory of the insect plague to exorcise demons,and other functions extended by the demand for rain.The frog gradually becomes an "all-powerful god".
