“Yeshi”(也是)is a common vocabulary in modern Chinese,which can be divided into three categories:“Yeshi1”represents resemblance,the adverb“Yeshi2”for emphasis and mood,and“Yeshi3”which is used independently as a discourse marker.The current research mainly focuses on the description of the pragmatic function of“Yeshi”expressing approval and complaint,and the exploration of its expression function is relatively weak.The present study redefines“Yeshi”through natural discourse corpus,and summarizes the“Yeshi”constructions that are similar in meaning or function.Through the observation of a large number of corpora from the perspective of conversational analysis,it was found that“Yeshi”in addition to the basic approval function of conversational function,has shown a clear affective function,expressing a change in the speaker’s attitude,which emerges slightly later than the approval and complaint functions and needs to be understood in the context of its surroundings.In addition to this,“Yeshi”is also dynamic in terms of conversational continuity,not only for self-perpetuation but also for the continuation of the discourse of others,allowing new information to emerge.In some more formal contexts,the subjunctive function of“Yehsi”can be divided into three categories:progressive explanation,semantic transition and emphasis.From a chronological point of view,the discourse marker“Yeshi”originated from the translation of the Buddhist scriptures and was later aided by the rise of the seven-character quatrains.At the beginning of the concatenation,the meaning of the word was not yet synonymous and had various pragmatic functions,but gradually solidified in frequent use.In the Song dynasty it became a highly contextualised structural term,with the semantics and functions of a discourse marker,and by the Ming and Qing dynasties it had a variety of semantic forms that have been preserved to this day.The presentation of the conversational function of the discourse marker“Yeshi”is the inevitable realization of the internal drive of the pragmatic principle,and the condensation of the modal function is the immediate result of contextual absorption,where the affective function of attitudinal change is a new development in the output facilitated by the interactive subjectivity and subjectivity of“Yeshi”.Although“Yeshi”is frequently used in spoken Chinese,it has not become a separate knowledge point in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,which is contrary to the realistic background that“Yeshi”is used as a high-frequency word in daily life.From the analysis of the HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus and the Global Chinese Mediated Corpus,the teaching of the structure of“Yeshi”is of great significance.Therefore,some rational suggestions are given for the future direction,sequence and teaching materials for Chinese volunteers or Chinese teachers.
