Analysis On Narrative Strategy Of VR Documentary

When we are still enjoying the visual feast brought by 3D images,a new generation of advanced image revolution represented by VR(Virtual Reality),HDR(High Dynamic Range),man-machine interaction has arrived.From 2016,"the first year of VR",various industries are trying to combine with this new technology,and the same is true for documentary.The emergence of VR documentary caters to people’s infinite pursuit of "reality".In the process of watching VR documentaries,the audience not only have the opportunity to observe the "reality",but also can "participate in" and "experience" the narrative process,and achieve the wonderful enjoyment of "an immersive experience",which adds richer and more profound connotations to the traditional documentary.At present,there is a lack of research on VR documentary,especially the theory related to VR documentary narrative.Therefore,this research focuses on the narrative of VR documentary and explore and summarize its narrative strategies.In the specific operation,based on the theories of narratology and film and television science as well as communication and other related theories,the author adopted methods of literature research,case analysis,comparative research and cross study to carry out this thesis,combining with excellent films.The author firstly discussed the VR documentary in detail,summarized the development of VR technology,and sorted of various forms of VR film and television works.By tracing the development process of VR documentary,the concept definition and subject matter classification of VR documentary were carried out,and the VR documentary in our country is divided into four periods from the time dimension.Meanwhile,relevant theories which are instructive for the analysis of narrative strategies of VR documentary were discussed.Secondly,the narrative skills of VR documentary were analyzed:in terms of narrative elements,it analyzed the unique identity of narrative characters,the life of story plot and the authenticity of the story scene;in terms of narrative perspective,it was summarized as the "internal focus" narrative emotional communication,the "external focus" narrative display experience,and the "zero focus" narrative objective statement;in terms of narrative structure,it was summarized as the guidance of linear narrative,the unity of plate narrative,the selectivity of multi-clue narrative,and the exploration of branch narrative structure.Then the VR documentary narrative methods were analyzed and summarized from three aspects:video narrative,voice narrative,and experience narrative.Finally,based on the characteristics of VR technology,summarized the narrative strategy of VR Documentary.Through this research,the author intends to provide a new perspective for the interpretation of VR documentary narrative,summarize the laws of VR documentary creation,and provide theoretical guidance for the VR documentary creation.It is hoped that this research can contribute to the development of documentary.
