| Quantifiers are distinctive features in the languages of East and Southeast Asian countries.Whether Thai,Chinese,Vietnamese,or other languages in this region, they have a richness in quantifiers that is unmatched in the languages of Europe,America, and other countries in the world.Due to Chinese and Thai belonging to the Sino-Tibetan language family, they have many similarities in grammatical composition. There are also a large number of quantifiers in Chinese and Thai, which can be divided into two categories:noun quantifiers and momentum quantifiers.Another example comes from the use of quantifiers in Chinese and Thai.Quantifiers are generally paired with numerals and nouns in these languages and cannot be used alone. This paper will provide a detailed analysis and comparison of the semantics, quantitative structure, referential structure, and construction method of noun quantifiers in Chinese and Thai from many angles,so as to reveal the similarities and differences in the usage of noun quantifiers in Chinese and Thai, and to enrich the results of comparative research on Chinese and Thai language. This paper is divided into the following five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction, which expounds the significance of the topic as well as the current situation and achievements of the research on the meaning and grammar of noun quantity words in Thai and Chinese. The second chapter is the semantic comparison of noun quantifiers in Chinese and Thai.Starting from the semantic function of noun quantifiers in Thai and Chinese, this paper studies their prominent characteristics, classification, similarities, and differences. The third chapter is a comparative study of quantitative structures in Chinese and Thai.First of all,the quantitative structures in Chinese and Thai express both definite and uncertain quantities.Secondly, adjectives can be inserted between the quantitative structures in Chinese and Thai, and the grammatical structures are similar but not completely similar. In addition, the syntactic functions of quantitative structures in Chinese and Thai are different, but there are also similarities. The fourth chapter is a comparative study of the referential structures between Chinese and Thai.It is mainly carried out in three aspects:first is the comparative analysis of the looming of numerals in Chinese and Thai referential structures;second is the comparative analysis of the combination of Chinese and Thai referential structures and noun quantifiers;and third is the comparative analysis of the syntactic functions of Chinese and Thai referential structures. The fifth chapter is the research conclusion. |
