A Chinese Translation Practice Report Of Decontamination And Japan

The source text for translation of this translation practice report is excerpted from Decontamination and Japan by Hino Kousuke,a journalist from Mainichi Shimbun.This book mainly focuses on Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident on the basis of the internal documents of the Japanese government through carrying out direct interviews with bureaucrats,scholars,and victims,which reveals the true intentions of the Japanese government’s covering up the truth of the accident.This topic is related to the people’s livelihood of all countries and satisfies the political development requirements of contemporary reportage.Decontamination and Japan,as reportage,has both the seriousness of news and the readability of literature,so it is of certain translation research values.Reportage is a non-fiction documentary literature with concise,accurate,and vivid text,which lays stress on characterization and detail description.Considering the characteristics of reportage,namely,newsworthiness,literariness,and political nature,an in-depth analysis of the words and sentences of the source text,the author’s emotional positions,the speaker’s tones,and the readability of reportage was performed based on the three principles for translation proposed by Tytler and the case analysis method was adopted to study the translation of reportage in this paper.In the whole translation process,translation methods such as restructuring,variation,amplification,and negation were adopted.The words and sentences of the source text were understood and analyzed and the words in the target text were carefully selected to reproduce the ideological contents of the source text.Besides,the writing style and emotions of the source text were analyzed to guarantee the genre and style of the text,and the long and difficult sentences were analyzed and adjusted to make the target text as fluent as the source text.The translation skills,levels,and efficiency are expected to be improved and methodological references for reportage translation are provided through this translation practice.
