Practical Handbook Of Marine Science (Chapter 6) English-Chinese Translation Practice Repor

The source text is selected from environmental science book Practical Handbook of Marine Science by Michael J.Kennish,which is the sixth chapter “Anthropogenic Effects”.The selected text evaluates the impacts of pollution and other human factors in estuaries and marine environments on water quality,habitats and biological communities,in which 15 types of human factors are elaborated in detail.There are a large number of nominalization,attributive clauses and passive voice in the text.Therefore,based on the characteristics of the text and Nida’s functional equivalence theory,the report analyzes and interprets the nominalization,attributive clause and passive voice respectively in environmental science texts.First of all,the translator uses free translation,part-of-speech conversion,and word formation to translate the nominalization.What’s more,the translator translates the passive sentence in accordance with the sequence of the original sentence,reverse translation and partial translation method.Last but not least,the translator adopts preposition method,postposition method and adverbial translation method in translating attributive clauses.It is expected that the report will provide some material support for scholars and reference for future translation in related fields.
