Ceramic culture,as one of Chinese national cultures, presents a plethora of fascinating stories and reflects the evolution and development of civilization. This report takes the fourth and fifth chapters of The City of Blue and White: Chinese Porcelain and the Early Modern World as the source material, which primarily explains the history of the birth of blue and white porcelain in Jingdezhen, the decline in Jizhou, the introduction of the Fourteenth-Century Jingdezhen.Based on the framework of “Comprehension,Expression, and Adaptation”provided by professor Li Changshuan, the translator presents her thinking in the translation process by analyzing translation examples.Firstly,in terms of comprehension,it elaborates how to comprehend words, syntactic structure and text. The accurate grasp of context and terms is the key to solving the comprehension problem.Secondly,at the level of expression, avoidance of Europeanized Chinese, ensurance of the textual coherence, and back translation are emphasized.Such techniques as division, ordering and back translating are mainly adopted.Thirdly, with respect to adaptation,it demonstrates how to modify the target text to improve cultural communication and provide a positive reading experience for readers. It is concluded from this translation that a correct knowledge of the original content is a prerequisite, skilled use of ceramic terminology is the key,and the ultimate goal of translation is to adapt to the language expression habits of the target readers and make it acceptable to readers.Compared with a conventional writing system, the CEA framework is a different one.At present, few people are studying this new writing idea in the field of translation. This translation practice reveals a wild that the entire translation process is comprised of the framework of comprehension, expression, and adaptation. The closer the three linkages are,the more effectively the text may be transplanted and the better the translation quality.
