| The source text is Chapter 9 and Chapter 10 of Reflective Parenting, published by Taylor & Francis in 2016.The book is divided into ten chapters and each chapter focuses on a different aspect of parenting such as the Parenting Map,parent APP,understanding and misunderstanding, and sensitive emotions, with the aim of helping parents to further explore children’s psychological activities and help them to understand their inner world, thus contributing to the improvement and maintenance of the parent-child relationship. The translation of this book is important for us to learn from western psychology and research methods, and to popularize the knowledge of parent-child relationship, family education and other related psychology. The book is mainly written by Alistair Cooper, clinical psychologist at the Michael Rutter Centre of the UK National Implementation Service, and Sheila Redfern, consultant clinical psychologist at the Anna Freud Centre in the UK.There are many difficulties in syntactic structure of source text, such as the handling of English single and double dashes, and the translation of a large number of complex and long sentences led by attributive clauses and adverbial clauses. In view of the differences in sentence structure and information focus between English and Chinese, the author adopts the Structural Shift of Catford’s Translation Shift Theory as a guide, adopts the case study method, and uses large numbers of examples to develop translation practice from the above two aspects respectively. The report summarizes three major ways to deal with dashes in the C-E translation process: retention, omission or shift(to comma, bracket, colon, etc.),which can solve the translation difficulties of dashes effectively. At the same time, with the help of structural shift theory, long sentences in English are shifted into serial clauses, end focus and Chinese inversions, which make the translation words short and concise,reader-friendly,and effectively avoid the appearance of translationese. Therefore, the meaning of the original text can be accurately conveyed, while its logical and strict characteristics can be retained and it’s easy to understand. This translation practice is the author’s exploratory translation of the text of parent-child education psychology, hoping to provide relevant information for the research in this field, and also to play a certain reference role for the translation of psychology texts in the future. |
