| The material of this translation project is selected from Price Discrimination and Intellectual Property written by Michael J.Meurer and Ben Depoorter. This article combines economic and legal knowledge with practice and focuses on the phenomena of price discrimination and its connection with intellectual property rights(IPR).This translation project is completed under the guidance of Newmark’s semantic and communicative translation theories. In the translation process, the translator especially pays attention to the communicative effect of the language and classifies the difficulties from two perspectives: lexical level and syntactic level, including the translation of technical terms, the translation of legal citation,as well as the translation of long sentences. On this basis, the translator adopts concrete translation techniques such as addition, omission, and conversion to deal with the problems on lexical level, and applies restructuring, division, adjustment of word order and conversion of voice to tackle problems at syntactic level. This English-Chinese translation practice not only introduces economic and legal knowledge to the Chinese readers but also provides practical methods and techniques to deal with proper nouns, long sentences and intricate structures. The translator hopes that this report can provide a practical reference for other translation studies of similar texts in the future. |
