| This translation practice report is based on author’s translation of the Chapter Eight of Reflective Parenting: A Guide to Understanding What’s Going on in Your Child’s Mind.The source text is featured with inanimate subjects,complex sentence and compound-complex sentence and the third one,detailed descriptions,which led to much translationese in author’s early drafts.As a common phenomenon in translation,translationese may affect not only target readers’ understanding and appreciation of source texts,but also the cross-cultural communication between countries.Therefore,it’s necessary for translators to eliminate translationese.The report starts by introducing the source text.Then the definitions,causes and common types of translationese are presented.And four types of translationese easily seen in the draft of this translation,namely,information redundance,structural redundance,abuse of inanimate subject and collocation error are given.Then three methods to eliminate translationese are illustrated with examples,which are respectively simplification of information and structure;adjustment of collocation and sentence order;and conversion of inanimate subject and parts of speech.Finally,the report concludes from the following three aspects.First,adequate preparation should be made.Second,the pursuit of faithfulness should be moderate.Three,solutions to eliminate translationese should include both source text and target text. |
