The archaeological activities of the Maijishan Grottoes entered a key excavation period from the 1950s.Due to the limitations of the cave archaeological technology, the investigation and cleaning of the Maijishan Grottoes and the sorting and research of inscriptions were limited. The Northwest Expedition is the first professional team dispatched by the central government after the founding of the People’s Republic of China and has concentrated a large number of archaeological forces. In 1952,Wang went to Africa to participate in the Northwest Study Group and went to the Maijishan Grottoes to inspect."Maijishan Inscriptions" was only published in 2017,and no scholars have studied it so far."Maiji Mountain Inscriptions" has a total of more than4,200 words, including 106 inscriptions in 23 caves. These inscriptions contain 37 era names,23 place names,110 personal names and 17 official names. Therefore,"Maijishan Inscriptions" is an important result of the investigation activities of Maijishan Grottoes in the 1950s,and provides data for exploring the differences between the inscriptions in the Maijishan caves in the 1950s and the existing inscriptions. After the inspection, the Northwest delegation published a message "The Ministry of Culture of Northwest China has completed the investigation of the Maijishan Grottoes".It was only a few hundred words, and the "Maijishan Inscription" was not released to the public.Through the recording and proofreading of the manuscript of Wang Qufei’s "Inscriptions on Maiji Mountain",through the analysis of the content of the manuscript, combined with Wang Qufei’s own life, writings and the excavation process of the Northwest delegation,it is inferred that Wang Qufei’s "Inscriptions on Maiji Mountain" " is one of the main findings of the Northwest delegation.Combined with field investigation and research, and comparing the inscriptions included in the manuscript,it is found that this manuscript retains the content of some inscriptions in the Maijishan Grottoes, which can restore the true appearance of some inscriptions in the Maijishan Grottoes in the 1950s,and revised the 1952 Northwest delegation. The earliest published inscription.Comparing with the inscriptions of Maijishan collected by Wang Qufei and Feng Guorui,Zhang Jinxiu and other scholars,a proofreading study is carried out on the newly discovered inscriptions that have not been included by scholars so far. This manuscript has important documentary value for studying the inscriptions of the Maijishan Grottoes. An analysis of the documentary and historical value of Wang Qufei’s "Inscriptions on Maiji Mountain" makes up for the weak link in the study of the Maijishan Grottoes, and preserves a more reliable primitive for future generations to study the spread of Buddhist culture and the development history of the Maijishan Grottoes.Material.Restoring the real situation of the inscriptions in the Maijishan Grottoes in the 1950s through "Inscriptions on Maiji Mountain" is of great value to study the differences and changes of the inscriptions in Maiji Mountain in the past 70 years. It provides first-hand information for the subsequent academic research on Maijishan inscriptions, and promotes the in-depth development of Maijishan inscriptions research.
