The source text of this translation report is two papers selected from the book Covid-19: paving the way for a more sustainable world, namely,Environmental Education as a Tool to Improve Sustainability and Promote Global Health: Lessons from the COVID-19 to Avoid Other Pandemics, and Re-thinking Sustainability Teaching, which mainly elaborate the influence of the coronavirus pandemic in different aspects and the successful measures of sustainable development taken by many countries, providing the reference materials for environmental education and sustainability teaching so as to prevent global health problems. Therefore, this translation practice report is of practical significance in the context of the fight against the Covid-19.In his book A Linguistic Theory of Translation,Catford pointed out that translation shift refers to the deviation from formal equivalence while translating the source text. And it is mainly divided into two types: level shifts and category shifts.Level shifts are mainly reflected in the mutual shifts of grammar and vocabulary;Category shifts means “the deviation of form correspondence in the process of translation”(Catford,1965),that is,there is no formal equivalence between the source language and the target language. And category shifts are mainly reflected in the aspects of unit, structure, category and intra-system.Then,it is clear that applying these two types of shifts in the translation practice of academic texts can effectively deal with the details and ensure the preciseness of academic texts. Therefore,in this report, based on Catford’s translation shifts theory, the translator analyzes and divides various transformation phenomena in the translation process in detail combined with the translation difficulties in the source text,in order to discuss the application of level shifts and category shifts in the translation practice and provide reference for the translation practice of academic texts.
