With the development of second language teaching in China, many language teaching researchers attempt to study new language teaching models from abroad.Once the task-based instruction was introduced into China,it has drawn a lot of attention in the field of linguistics and education. The translation of the relevant texts of task-based teaching instruction will help more educators understand and learn the new teaching model, and improve the traditional teaching methods. For this reason, the translator selects the book Second Language Task-Based Performance: Theory,Research,Assessment as the source text for translation practice. As the source text belongs to an academic text concerned with linguistics, there are a large number of professional terms related to second language acquisition, and meanwhile complex long and difficult sentences are widely used.Besides, the text is rigorous in semantics, coherent and logical in structure. In order to present the accurate message in the source language, the translator, guided by the theory of functional equivalence, examines the text at the lexical, syntactical and discourse levels, thus exploring a series of translation strategies and skills to improve the quality of translation. The strategies are summarized as follows: At the lexical level, the methods of conversion of parts of speech and semantic extension are used to enhance the flexibility and accuracy of vocabulary translation, thus reproducing the content of the sourcelanguage text.At the syntactical level, for the passive sentences, the translator adopts conversion of passive voice and linear translation method. And for faithfulness to the content of the source language, the compound sentences are rendered with the methods of division, restructuring and inversion. At the discourse level, the translator uses a combination of repetition, conversion, omission and amplification in hopes of ensuring the accuracy, logic and completeness of the discourse. This translation practice is hoping to provide some reference for the translation of task-based instruction.
