| The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to different sectors of the world,and the impact on education has been even greater than expected.This report is based on simulated consecutive interpreting “Teaching Special Education Online during COVID-19” webinar hosted by the Council for Exceptional Children(CEC).The author started by introducing the background of the project,the preparation,and the process of simulated interpretation.During the interpretation,the author came across problems of understanding and expression such as semantic uncertainty,slang,redundancy and long sentences.The author analyzed the source language texts by applying the relevance theory which contains principles of cognitive context,ostensive-inferential model and optimal relevance.The author utilized interpretation strategies such as addition,omission,compression,explanatory interpretation,restructuring and explicitness to address the abovementioned difficulties.Based on the transcripts,the author revised the target texts in order to check to what extent she may improve her interpreting,the purpose is also to summarize for further study and to identify the orientation for future efforts. |
