A Report On The C-E Translation Of Magic Flute (Excerpt) From The Perspective Of Eco-poetics

This translation report analyzes the Chinese-English translation of excerpts of Magic Flute under the guidance of eco-poetics theory.The book is a collection of the representative works from folk fairy tales of the Bai people.Thanks to Yunnan Province’s regional background and the characteristics of multi-ethnic settlement,these works are not only full of Yunnan’s original ecological charm,but also convey the rich cultural heritage of the Bai people.Through human’s care to flora and fauna,these interesting folk fairy tales transmit a strong ecological awareness that human and nature can coexist harmoniously.It helps children in the contemporary world to construct a healthy spiritual ecology in their childhood and inspires children and young people to actively participate in the practice of protecting the earth’s ecological environment.At present,there is little use of eco-poetics to explore or analyze the translation practice of folk fairy tales of ethnic groups.Under the guidance of eco-poetics theory,this translation report discusses the translation of Magic Flute(excerpt)from the three aspects of natural ecology,social ecology and spiritual ecology through case analysis and comparison method.Translation under the guidance of eco-poetics should adhere to the following principles.First,the translator should pay attention to and fully explore the ecological connotations from the source text.Secondly,the translation process is the transition of the ecological connotations from the source text to the target text,and the three aspects of natural ecology,social ecology and spiritual ecology are promising starting points.Finally,under the concept of organic holism,the target text can form an ecological entity and convey the ecological awareness of the source text.Eco-poetics provides a new perspective for translation researches.The purpose of this translation report is to analyze the feasibility and effectiveness of eco-poetics in guiding the translation activities of folk fairy tales,and to generate the target text with ecological vitality,so as to make a little contribution to the global ecological protection activities and provide reference value for the further research activities of English translation of ethnic children’s literature.
