Abstract/Summary:
As animal medicine rapidly develops, the translation of animal medical texts has gradually attracted people’s attention.Modern animal medicine is still dominated by the West.Animal medicine translation plays a pivotal role in accurately obtaining international frontier research results and promoting the long-term development of animal medicine in China. In this report, the author selects the book Skin Diseases of Cats and Dogs as the text and takes Professor Liu Zhongde’s "faithfulness, expressiveness and closeness" as the theoretical guidance, aiming at achieving efficient translation of animal medical texts by using this translation theory and providing a reference for medical translation. This report covers the whole process of translation practice.First of all,the research background, research purpose, and the language features of the source text are described in detail, and the preparatory work before translation, the problems encountered in the process of translation, and the proofreading process after translation are recorded. In addition, through the analysis of specific cases at the levels of vocabulary, syntax, and discourse respectively, the guiding role of "faithfulness, expressiveness and closeness" in animal medicine translation is discussed. Finally, under the guidance of this theory, the author has successfully solved the problems related to the translation of technical terms, postpositive attributes, and adverbial clauses, among others, and accurately translated the source text into the target language.Based on practice and theory, the author has drawn the following conclusions:(1)As a branch of scientific and technical texts, animal medical texts contain a large number of professional terms, and translators should study the relevant professional knowledge and vocabulary in advance to ensure the accuracy of the translation.(2)Since rigor, neutrality, logicality, and accuracy of concepts are paid much attention to in the medical text Skin Diseases of Cats and Dogs, the translation is not easy.Translators should not only have certain medical expertise but also master a lot of translation skills.(3)Medical translators need to not only study theoretical translation methods and develop translation skills but also combine theory with practice to solve problems in translation practice and improve the translation levels. This translation practice enables the author to not only gain more relevant knowledge of animal medicine but also master the application of the translation theory of "faithfulness, expressiveness and closeness",which improves her translation skills. At the same time, the translator sincerely hopes that this paper can provide a reference and contribute to the study of the translation of animal medicine in China.
