From the Northern Dynasty to the Sui and Tang Dynasties,Binzhou roughly included today’s Taiyuan City,Yangquan City and some areas of Jinzhong City in Shanxi Province. It was located in the combination zone of agriculture and nomadism. It was the main channel for the northern nomadic tribes to go south to the Central Plains. Therefore, its strategic position was very important: to the East, you can cross Taihang mountain to reach Hebei,or to the south, you can reach Hebei through Shangdang through Fukou;Go south through Shangdang and Jincheng, and then cross the Yellow River from Jiyuan to Henan;Go southwest through Fenzhou,Jinzhou and Jiangzhou, cross the Yellow River from Puzhou to Guanzhong area;Passing through Xindai in the north and Yanmenguan in the north,it can reach the northern part of the great wall and the areas.Since the Wei and Jin Dynasties,Binzhou has been an important frontier town in the north of the Central Plains Dynasty.Naturally,it can not avoid exchanges with ethnic minorities.During the Northern Wei and Northern Qi dynasties,Binzhou also changed from an important frontier town to a bafu and other capital with the core of rule.As the place of Longxing in the Li Tang Dynasty, the establishment of Binzhou was upgraded from the state to the northern capital Taiyuan government. The change of strategic and political status undoubtedly provided important conditions for Binzhou to become a gathering place of eastern and Western cultures, and it was also the background of the gradual formation of Binzhou’s multiculturalism.During the Han and Tang Dynasties, the ethnic groups that poured into Binzhou first included the nomadic ethnic groups from the grassland, such as the southern Huns,Xianbei and Shanhu, and then the western ethnic groups that moved to Binzhou from the western regions and Central Asia, such as Sute and Shatuo.Over the past two decades,a lot of archaeological achievements in the Sui and Tang Dynasties of the Northern Dynasty have been found around Taiyuan.Represented by tombs, religion, painting and dance art,it is a concentrated expression of the multiculturalism of Bingzhou during the Sui and Tang Dynasties of the Northern Dynasty, which can be studied and combed.Among them, the murals and artifacts unearthed in the tombs not only have the style of grassland nomads, but also contain many elements such as Central Asia.In addition, since Buddhism was introduced into China from India during the Han Dynasty to the Sui and Tang Dynasties of the Northern Dynasty,it has enjoyed unprecedented prosperity. There are a large number of cliff stone carvings and temple sites in the Xishan area near Taiyuan; In addition,Zoroastrianism originated in Persia was gradually spread to Binzhou through the silk road.Through the tombs found so far in the Sui and Tang Dynasties of the Northern Dynasty and the records of Zoroastrianism customs in Binzhou in historical materials,it can be seen that Zoroastrianism was also popular in Binzhou during this period. In addition,we can also obtain the wine culture, painting and dance art of Bingzhou area in Sui,Tang and Northern Dynasties from the existing archaeological data. The "foreign" culture brought by foreign ethnic groups took root and sprouted in Bingzhou. The arrival of these ethnic groups provided an internal driving force for the formation of multi-cultural in Bingzhou, and further gave birth to the integration of multi-cultural integration such as Central Plains culture, nomadic culture and Western Central Asian culture in Bingzhou.
