The acceleration of China’s aging population and the successive relaxation of the two child and three child policies have made it necessary for many families to face both the passing of their elders and the birth of new lives.Since 2019,the impact of the global epidemic has made news topics such as death and disasters more frequent in the public eye,which can easily trigger anxiety,depression,and panic about death in the long run.In this special era,it is imperative to strengthen life education,and the importance of life education is even greater for children.Children are more susceptible to the influence and harm of their surrounding environment due to their immature psychological development.A healthy and positive concept of life education can help children shape a healthy psychology and personality in their growth.However,due to the late start and insufficient popularization of life education in China,as well as the taboo mentality towards the concept of "death" in traditional public beliefs,and considering the special aesthetic and psychological characteristics of children,it is necessary to choose a more gentle path and gradual approach when promoting children’s life education.The interesting and entertaining nature of picture books makes them suitable as carriers for promoting children’s life education.The rise of emotional experience design has given life education picture books more possibilities for expression,and its design philosophy of instinct,behavior,and reflection provides research direction for reducing the serious distance between life and death issues in life education themes and visualizing abstract life education concepts in more childlike and understandable language.This article analyzes the three levels of emotional experience in picture book design and combines the aesthetic,psychological,and physiological characteristics of preschool children to summarize the basic design needs of the instinctive,behavioral,and reflective layers in children’s picture book design.Based on this,further in-depth research is conducted to obtain corresponding design techniques for the life education theme in the three levels of emotional experience in picture books,and to guide design practice,Create a life education picture book called ’The Wish List of Mayflies’.This article expands the application of emotional experience theory in children’s picture books by studying the design method of life education picture books based on emotional experience,and enriches the interesting presentation methods of life education picture books,providing reference ideas for further promoting children’s life education.
