Study On The Textual Research Of Clans In The Book Of Songs By Li Chaosun

A textual research on 179 nobles in The Book of Songs by the scholar Li Chaosun in the Qing dynasty,which is more than 200 years after Lin Shisheng’s Textual Research on People in The Book of Songs,Chen Zilong’s The Figures in The Book of Songs,but is regarded as the first Book of Songs character textual research book.With that in mind,this paper mainly discusses the edition origin,compilation style and textual research method of The Textual Research of Clans in the Book of Songs,analyzes the textual research noble figures,and then explores the academic characteristics and influence of the book.In the first part of the thesis,the source of the edition,the style of compilation and the method of textual research are discussed.The book was first engraved in 1835 by Jiang Guangxu,and then appeared in three editions: The Collection of Cuilang Gan Guan,The Collection of Yu Yuan,and The First Compilation of The Collection.The Textual Research of Clans in the Book of Songs takes the names of the clan in The Book of Songs or in the preface to The Book of Songs as the textual research items,the source is listed under the items,and the textual research materials are listed in the sections after the items,some textual research materials are also attached with Li Chaosun’s notes.Li Chaosun basically followed the Anhui School of textual research,the principle of no seek truth from facts,the collection of textual research materials by the works of the classic and annals’ writers as well as the writings of people of a similar age.As to the contradiction of the materials,The Textual Research of Clans in the Book of Songs uses the textual research method of combination of induction,deduction and comparison.The second part analyzes Li Chaosun’s evaluation of the characters in The Book of Songs.In The Book of Songs,Li Chaosun examines the good and evil of the monarchs,the nobles and the nobles.Among them,he praises the people strive after virtue and practice good deeds,arouse one’s all efforts to make the country prosperous,loyalty and courage,and the meekness of loyalty,there are also accusations of profligacy and insolence,of overstepping foolish loyalty,of lascivious and insolence.These commentaries are full of insights into the controversies in the textual materials,such as refuting the fact that King Wen of Zhou did not have a king,that King Wu did not kill Zhou,and propagating the idea of worship of virtue in the Zhou dynasty.Although Li Chaosun sympathized with aristocratic women as political tools,his theory of“Women perish the country” and the idea that women should obey men were limited by the times.The third part explores the academic characteristics of The Book of Songs.The Textual Research of Clans in the Book of Songs not only devotes itself to the revival of the theories of Mao Zhuan and Zheng Jian,but also contributes to the revival of the Han dynasty classics.On the one hand,Li Chaosun critically accepts Mao Heng and Zheng Xuan’s theories,worships but does not blindly follow them,highlighting the speculative features of“Qingxue in The Book of Songs”.On the other hand,the book collects a lot of surnames materials to study the surnames in The Book of Songs and nothing in common them in the character textual research works in The Book of Songs.Li Chaosun’s method of textual research on The Book of Songs echoes the method of positivism in writing poems,The Textual Research of Clans in the Book of Songs,which educates the masses by positive and negative historical figures,also reflects the practice of Li Chaosun in the combination of Zhuo Shou Study’s Poems and Essays,which educates the masses by moral models.The Textual Research of Clans in the Book of Songs is The Book of Songs with the most characters.It is the first time to systematically sort out the characters in The Book of Songs and The Preface to The Book of Songs.At the same time,The Textual Research of Clans in the Book of Songs is the first time to express personal opinions in the textual research of the characters in The Book of Songs,and it becomes a classic work of textual research of the characters in The Book of Songs.Compared with the lost volumes of Lin Shisheng’s Textual Research on People in The Book of Songs,The Textual Research of Clans in the Book of Songs has been engraved many times and kept intact,attracting many scholars’ attention.Although there are plenty of textual research characters in Chen Zilong’s The Figures in The Book of Songs,it is not a special textual research book of The Book of Songs.This book not only examines "Person" in The Book of Songs,but also examines "Thing" in The Book of Songs which contains the contents of astronomy,geography and so on..Because Li Fusun thought that there was no textual research work in the book of songs,Cheng Junying and Hong Zhanhou regarded it as the first textual research work in The Book of Songs.
