A Report On C-E Translation Of Research On Folk Culture Of The Ethnic Minority Groups Of Guizhou Province (Chapter 2) From The Perspective Of Translation Variation Theory

Folk culture of the ethnic groups is the soul of Chinese national spirit and constitutes the whole Chinese culture with other ethnic cultures.Thus,it is of realistic significance to attach great emphasis on the research of the ethnic culture.Research on the Folk Culture of the Ethnic Minority Groups of Guizhou Province,the original script the translator adopted to conduct translation which makes a full analysis and research on Guizhou’s culture of its ethnic groups from the perspective of sociology,folklore,art as well as anthropology,has provided important material to conduct researches on cultures of the ethnic groups.This practice report aims to advertise the festival culture of the ethnic groups of Guizhou and is expected to provide accesses for other readers to know the cultural diversity of ethnic groups.After careful reading and making a full analysis of the original script,Research on the Folk Culture of the Ethnic Minority Groups of Guizhou Province,the translator intends to adopt the Translation Variation Theory to conduct translation activity at the linguistic,cultural and communicative level respectively.First,at the linguistic level,there are some folk sayings with ethnic features and frequent simple sentences and compound sentences,which requires the translator to express their specific meaning while maintaining their intrinsic language features.Therefore,the translator intends to adopt the translation methods of “narration” and ”combination” to make translation.Second,at the cultural level,there exists some culture-loaded words and folk songs,it therefore requires the target readers to know some about Chinese culture due to the differences between two cultures.So the author will adopt the method of “addition”and “adaptation” to translate the original text.Third,at the communicative level,there are some long complicated sentences with repeated and redundant information.It’s therefore necessary to cater to the target readers’ reading habits for the differences on the two languages.For this,the translator will adopt the translation method of“deletion” and “edition” to overcome reading obstacles at the communicative level.In conclusion,this translation practice,on the one hand,can testify the feasibility of the Translation Variation Theory,on the other hand,will enable more people to know the traditional culture behind these festivals celebrated by the ethnic groups.
