In recent years,China’s deep-sea oil and gas exploration industry have developed rapidly;however, exploration techniques in China and the world’s top level still have certain distance, which require optimization of construction equipment and technology. Therefore, the translation of marine books is of great importance for solving above problems.Marine Engineering English contains extensive terminology and polysemy, which features highly professional and conceptual.Accurate comprehension of the conceptual information from the original text is a key step in the translation.Translation is a cognitive transformation process that takes place between two languages, wherein the translator deconstructs the source text and constructs the target text.On the basis of the three-order theory of Conceptual Integration, the author classifies and discusses the difficulties in the translation practice of Design and Installation of Marine Pipelines(chapter 8)from the three levels of vocabulary, sentence and discourse. The case analysis methods were used to analyze the translation barriers, which affects the translator’s lexical semantic cognition, sentence structure construal and understanding of discourse meaning. The four spaces of the Conceptual Integration theory are applied to the translation practice, integrating the source text space and the translator space to form a new blending space, which is the target text. The author summarized six translation techniques for different translation difficulties in this paper, including contextual supplementation, source language extension, transposition and reordering, splitting and reorganization, logical explicitation and reiteration of source words,to convey target text information accurately and fluently. This paper provides some reference for the translation of marine pipeline construction documents.
