This report is based on the practice of English-Chinese simulated alternating interpreting about The Story of China that is a documentary made by the BBC,and the report makes analysis about the problems and causes encountered by the interpreter in this practice,and proposes the corresponding solution strategies through reviewing the audio of practice process,transcribing the text,and self-evaluation after the interpreting process.It is found that there are several kinds of interpretation problems in practice,including improper translation of long and difficult sentences,improper literal translation of rhetoric,and lack of culture-specific words in the target language.It also involves the back translation of ancient poetry and Classical Chinese.The author proposes corresponding solution strategies through specific case analysis in this report.In order to solve the problems of improper interpreting about long and difficult sentences,the author puts forward the strategy of sentence breaking and restructuring.With the purpose of solving improper literal translation of rhetorical devices,the author proposes the free translation strategy.For the sake of making up the lack of culture-specific words in the target language,the author offers the domesticating strategy.And the author also puts forward the methods of borrowing and compensation in the back translation of ancient poetry and Classical Chinese.This English-Chinese alternating interpreting shows the image of China in foreigners’ mind and translation problems caused by cultural differences.It also provides some valuable practical experience and strategies to solve various problems in translation,and helps to improve the ability of interpreting.
