Globally, rapid population growth is putting enormous pressure on agriculture and the environment, while various indiscriminate anthropogenic interventions in whole ecosystems are constantly affecting and troubling nature and the environment. This paper therefore explores the possibilities of developing agricultural and environmental quality through the application of microorganisms and their beneficial secondary metabolites, using Microbes in Agricultural and Environmental Development as an example, with the aim of gathering up-to-date and effective information from foreign subject matter experts and beneficial microbial services to address current challenges in sustainable agriculture and environmental stability. The main aim of this translation practice is to provide more valuable services for the related researchers in the field of microbiology in our country through the translation of some chapters of this book, and to provide better reference and inspiration for the translation of biological scientific texts. In this thesis, the translator analyzed the original text, combined the characteristics of the sci-tech English text, and studied and analyzed the problems in the process of translating the scie-tech text under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory, also discussing the methods of translation so as to write this thesis. This translation practice report includes an introduction to the translation task, description of the translation process, theoretical framework, case study and conclusion section.Of these, the case study section is the core of this report.Using Nida’s theory of functional equivalence as a guide, the translator explores the problems encountered in the translation process at three levels:lexical, syntactic and textual, and adopts appropriate solutions accordingly. At the level of lexical equivalence, the translator used literal translation and free translation to translate professional words, professional general words and noun phrases;at syntactic equivalence level, for the translation of passive sentences and long difficult sentences, the translator, according to the great differences between English and Chinese, converted English’s passive sentences into the active sentences in Chinese, etc.,and when translating long difficult sentences, the translator clarified the structure of the sentences through the context, and adopted the translation method of combining literal translation and free translation;and at the textual equivalence level,in order to realize the cohesion and coherence in the text, the translator made clear the structure of the sentence through the context and adopted the translation method such as the sequential method, the translator translated the biological text by reference, conjunction and logical structure. Finally, the findings and limitations of the translation research in this translation practice report and suggestions for further translation research are summarized.
