| Based on the popular science lecture “The Prevention and Treatment of Winter Sports Injury” from the Xuetang X platform,the author carried out this report in December 2021.The selected lecture is composed of three speakers,who are respectively responsible for the beginning of the lecture,summarizing the prevention and treatment of winter sports injury,shoulder joint sports injury,and hip joint sports injury.Based on the background of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games,experts from the Department of Orthopedics and Medicine at PLA General Hospital conducted the popular science lecture for the public,shared the experience of prevention and treatment of sports injury from the local area and the army in order to make scientific knowledge more accessible to the general public.The interpreter’s main difficulties lie in discourse coherence.Coherence is inseparable from cohesion because cohesion is an important condition for achieving coherence.To solve the difficulties of coherence,we need to discuss the cohesive devices,because they affect the coherence of the whole discourse.Focusing on the inherent logic level of the discourse,the interpreter should follow certain logic to convey information in the process of interpreting.Surface structural information and deep structural information are both parts of the information that makes up semantic coherence.The loss of semantic coherence leads to a lack of overall coherence,which also affects the quality of simultaneous interpretation.This report puts forward and applies the following countermeasures to the difficulties of coherence in interpretation:(1)difficulties caused by the use of cohesive devices are adopted by amplification,alteration,and simplification;(2)difficulty caused by the loss of semantic coherence should take the tactics of combination and paraphrasing.This report refers to Gile’s Effort Model to explore the causes of difficulties in interpreting.In the process of interpreting,the interpreter should always cooperate with the speaker’s discourse communication,and when dealing with information,she should make the least cognitive effort to achieve the maximum cognitive benefit.Gile’s Effort Model reveals the process of simultaneous interpretation.Interpreters should accomplish many tasks at once,such as listening comprehension,information processing,short-term memory,and language production.For interpreters,the process of reconstructing discourse coherence is a process of simultaneous interpretation,and the coherence output of the interpreter’s discourse is embodied in listening comprehension and language output.This report discusses the problems that lead to difficulties in coherence on popular science lecture simultaneous interpretation.It also provides useful guidance and reference for the author and other interpreters to achieve better coherence in simultaneous interpretation of popular science lectures. |
