This thesis is a report based on the author's simultaneous interpreting assignment in an exchange seminar between the Government of Dongguan and the Thai Consulate-General in Guangzhou in September,2019.For interpreters,it is of great importance to allocate energy properly during the process of interpreting.According to the Effort Model by Daniel Gile, the efforts the interpreter needs to make involve listening and analysis, memory, production and coordination. Each step needs the proper allocation of energy. This report analyzes some major difficulties in terms of energy allocation which the author experienced in the Dongguan assignment, such as figures, expressions with Chinese characteristics, long sentences, the causes for these challenges and possible solutions to them so as to deliver better quality interpreting service in the future. It is found that energy allocation could be a big challenge for interpreters. When figures occur in quick succession, more attention should be paid to the memory part to ensure the accuracy of figure interpreting. When expressions with Chinese characteristics appear, more focus should be on the listening and analysis part,so as to convey the deep meaning of speakers. When long sentences show up,the interpreter is supposed to focus more on the production part to make the interpretation more logical and understandable to the audience. Thus, the guidance of the Effort Model is of great importance. It is expected that this report will shed light and be helpful in dealing with difficulties in interpreting in similar situations.
