The English-Chinese translation report takes the first three chapters of Katerina:The Russian World of Katherine Mansfield as the source text in my practical translation.The book,written by Joanna Woods,was published by Penguin Publishing Group in2001 and has not been translated into Chinese yet.It discusses the life and significant deeds of Katerina Mansfield,the founder of New Zealand literature from the third person perspective.It has the features of authenticity and literariness with simple and natural writing style.In accordance with Peter Newmark’s text typology theory,this translated text can be classified as an informative text and an expressive text.Its key functions are the factual information and author’s feelings and emotions.Therefore,it’s necessary to adopt appropriate translation strategies for the different target text.This report includes the translation practice,translation theories adopted,translation difficulties encountered in the process.It’s divided into five parts.The first part is mainly the task introduction,including author introduction,text introduction and significance of the translation.The second part describes detailed information about translation process,including efforts made in preparation,while-translating and proofreading.The third part is the translation theory.The fourth part is the case study as the main body of the report.It analyzes translation in lexical level,syntactical level and textual level from the prospective of text typology theory of Peter Newmark.In the lexical level,it uses conversion,addition and adaption translation method.In the syntactical level,it uses the linear translation,division and inversion translation method.In the textual level,it analyzes the coherence of translation in attitude and semantic meaning.The fifth part is a conclusion,including the summary and limitation of the report,which arouses people’s attention to biography translation and supports some perceptions and implications for the future practice. |
