This paper focuses on the female figures in Botticelli’s and Gu Kai-zhi’s artworks,mainly through a comparative study,in which works such as Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus,Spring,Pallas and Kentoros,Slander,and Judith and Holofernes,as well as Gu Kai-zhi’s The Picture of Luo Shen Fu,The Picture of Women’s History and Proverbs,and The Picture of Listed Ladies in Renji are used to The second chapter of this paper is devoted to five chapters.Chapter 2 compares the historical background of Botticelli’s and Gu Kaizhi’s paintings,analyzing the awakening of human thought and the social climate toward women in the two periods.The third chapter analyzes the sources of female images in Botticelli’s and Gu Kai-zhi’s paintings,including literary sources and pictorial sources,mainly the translation of words into concrete images and the accumulation and evolution of female images themselves.The fourth chapter compares the female forms in Botticelli’s and Gu Kaizhi’s paintings,first discussing the influence of different creative concepts on the female forms of the two painters,and then comparing them in terms of line and color,combining specific objects,such as the hair and folds of the clothes of the women in the paintings.Chapter 5 deals with the beauty of female forms in the paintings of Botticelli and Gu Kaizhi,discussing the different spiritual beauty and the different female forms of beauty in China and the West from different aspects.Chapter 6 summarizes the influence of the female form in Botticelli’s and Gu Kaizhi’s paintings and the aesthetic value of female figure painting,as well as the influence and inspiration of the two painters on the author’s creation.The female figure,as an objective object and transmitted in the form of images,is a better visual representation of the way of life of women in a particular era than a mere literary analysis.Through a comparative study of the female figures in Botticelli and Gu Kaizhi’s paintings,we can first explore the beauty of women themselves,understand the aesthetic tendency of society toward women at that time,and use it to shape the female figures in Chinese painting today,understand the different concepts of painting in China and the West,and understand the artistic characteristics and directions of artistic development of different national characteristics in different times,which can provide guidance for the inheritance and development of contemporary art in the context of diversified development.It can provide guidance for the inheritance and development of contemporary art in the context of diversified development.The development of female subject painting in these two periods is mainly reflected in painting techniques,figure modelling and thematic content,and reached an unprecedented level in the development and innovation of art theory.Through a comparative study of Botticelli’s and Gu Kaizhi’s masterpieces,we understand the aesthetic standards of women in the Renaissance and Wei-Jin periods,as well as the commonalities and differences in the female forms under different ideological backgrounds.The study of the female figures by the two painters also plays an important role in the author’s creation of paintings.
